Maximum Ride is a young adult science-fiction fantasy novel series written by James Patterson. It chronicles the lives of six kids (aka the Flock)—Max (the leader), Fang, Iggy, Nudge, the Gasman, and Angel (the youngest member)—who were created in a lab known as the School and are 98% human and 2% avian (bird). In addition to their mixed DNA, the Flock also has something many only dream of having—wings that they can actually fly with.

The series is split into two sections: the Fugitives and the Protectors. The Fugitives books are when the Flock is trying to escape from the hands of the School. The Protectors books are when the Flock is attempting to save the world from their various enemies.
